2.4    SysMan Storage Management Applications

The following applications are available from the Storage Management application group icon:

You also can open these applications from the command line. Each command name is shown in parentheses with the application description.

The storage management applications are layered products, and as such, may not be included in your system. You must have the software subset for each storage management application you want to use.

AdvFS (dtadvfs)

AdvFS is included with the base system; however, the GUI for managing AdvFS, dtadvfs, is available only as a layered product.

Dependencies: You must have the dtadvfs software subsets installed.

You must be root or have the appropriate privileges to run dtadvfs.

To open dtadvfs from the command line, enter dtadvfs.

For additional information, see the following:

Bootable Tape

(btcreate)

Use btcreate to create a standalone, bootable tape that contains the operating system and file systems that you specify. After creating the standalone bootable kernel, you can install the customized operating system using btextract.

Dependencies: You must have the btcreate and btextract software subsets installed.

You must be root or have the appropriate privileges to run btcreate.

To open btcreate from the command line, enter btcreate.

For additional information, see the following:

  • btextract(8) reference page

  • Release notes for restrictions on the use of btcreate and btextract

LSM (dxlsm)

The Logical Storage Manager ( LSM) is a disk storage management tool that protects against data loss, improves disk input/output performance, and customizes the disk configuration. Use LSM (dxlsm) to perform disk management functions without disrupting the users or applications that access data on those disks.

Dependencies: You must have the dxlsm software subsets installed.

You must be root or have the appropriate privileges to run dxlsm.

To open dxlsm from the command line, enter dxlsm.

For additional information, see the dxlsm(8X) reference page.
