NAME
     vstiff - TIFF stream viewer

SYNOPSIS
vstiff [X toolkitoption...] [vstiff option...] [file]

DESCRIPTION
vstiff is a viewer for Stream TIFF. Stream TIFF is a subset of TIFF that
can be read from and written to a stream (no seeking is required).

vstiff draws the image represented by a TIFF stream in a Motif window on
the screen. If a TIFF stream contains more than one image, the Page Down
and Page Up keys can be used to traverse the pages. If an image does not
fit in the window, the scroll bars can be used.

If vstiff is used to open a file that is not a Stream TIFF file, it will
check to see if it is a PostScript file and if psrip(1) is installed. If
so, it will use psrip(1) to convert the PostScript to Stream TIFF and
display that. If the file is neither Stream TIFF nor PostScript, vstiff
will try to run fileconvert(1) to convert it to PostScript.

   Command Line Options
vstiff supports the following command line options in addition to the
     standard Xt command line options:

-stdin If the -stdin command line option is present, vstiff reads
Stream TIFF data from its standard input instead of attempting
to open a file.	In the absence of the -stdin flag, vstiff
	       ignores its standard input.

-debug The -debug flag instructs vstiff to print the values of the
TIFF tags of each image it reads. The tag values are printed
to standard error. This can be useful for debugging the
development of filters that output Stream TIFF data.

-noopen The -noopen flag instructs vstiff to not allow new files to be
opened by using the File menu. If the -noopen flag is present,
it is an error not to provide a file name to display on the
	       command line.

In addition, the following command line arguments correspond to their
similarly named resource equivalents (see next section): -psrip,
-psbits, -pscolorspace, -psformat, -psxres, -psyres, -pswidth,
-psxinches, -psheight, -psyinches, -psxoff, -psyoff, -psprolog,
     -psmirror, -pslandscape, -psshowpage

PROGRAM RESOURCES
vstiff is written using the standard X toolkit and the Motif widget set.
The program accepts all standard Xt/Motif resources and command line
options. In addition to these resources the following resources are
specific to the vstiff program and may be specified by the user.

VSTIFF(1) Impressario VSTIFF(1)

   General Resources
     pointerColor (class PointerColor)
The foreground color for the mouse cursor.

     pointerColorBackground (class PointerColorBackground)
The background color for the mouse cursor.

     hourGlassWaitCursor (class HourGlassWaitCursor)
If True, use the hour glass cursor instead of the watch
		    cursor to indicate busy status.

   Resources that affect psrip(1) options
The following resources affect options that are passed to the psrip(1)
command to convert PostScript data to Stream TIFF. See the psrip(1)
manual page for more information on psrip(1).

     psRip (class PSRip)
The program used to convert PostScript to Stream TIFF.
The default is to use /usr/lib/print/psrip.

     psBits (class PSBits)
The number of bits per pixel to output in the conversion
from PostScript to Stream TIFF. Corresponds to the -B
		    option of psrip(1).

     psColorSpace (class PSColorSpace)
The color space to use in the conversion. Corresponds to
		    the -C option of psrip(1).

     psFormat (class PSFormat)
The format to use in the conversion. Corresponds to the
		    -F option of psrip(1).

     psXRes (class PSXRes)
The X resolution to use in the conversion.	Corresponds to
		    the -X option of psrip(1).

     psYRes (class PSYRes)
The Y resolution to use in the conversion.	Corresponds to
		    the -Y option of psrip(1).

     psWidth (class PSWidth)
The width to use in the conversion. Corresponds to the -W
		    option of psrip(1).

     psXInches (class PSXInches)
If this resource is set and psWidth is not, then vstiff
will calculate the -W option to pass to psrip as psXInches
multiplied by psXRes. if psWidth is set, psXInches has no
		    effect.

									Page 2

VSTIFF(1) Impressario VSTIFF(1)

     psHeight (class PSHeight)
The height to use in the conversion. Corresponds to the
		    -H option of psrip(1).

     psYInches (class PSYInches)
If this resource is set and psHeight is not, then vstiff
will calculate the -H option to pass to psrip as psYInches
multiplied by psYRes. if psHeight is set, psYInches has
		    no effect.

     psXOff (class PSXOff)
The X offset to use in the conversion. Corresponds to the
		    -U option of psrip(1).

     psYOff (class PSYOff)
The Y offset to use in the conversion. Corresponds to the
		    -V option of psrip(1).

     psProlog (class PSProlog)
The value of this resource is the path name of a
PostScript prolog file for psrip(1) to execute before
processing its input. This corresponds to the -I option
		    of psrip(1).

     psMirror (class PSMirror)
If True, the image is mirrored in the conversion process.
Corresponds to the -f option of psrip(1).

     psLandScape (class PSLandScape)
If True, force landscape mode in the conversion.
Corresponds to the -l option of psrip(1).

     psShowPage (class PSShowPage)
if True, a showpage command is appended to a PostScript
stream that does not already contain one. Corresponds to
		    the -S option of psrip(1).

NOTES
vstiff is NOT a general purpose TIFF viewer. imgview(1) can be used to
view TIFF files that vstiff cannot open.

vstiff ignores any print specific tags written to the STIFF stream by the
     function PSTWriteImageHeader(3).

FILES
     /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/VStiff Program resource file
     /usr/tmp/vstiff* Temporary files

SEE ALSO
