2.7.4    Monitoring and Tuning

The Monitoring and Tuning branch of SysMan Menu lets you display information about system status, including events, virtual memory status, and I/O status. You can also perform tasks that help improve system performance.

View Events

Event Viewer is the portion of EVM, an event management system, that establishes a retrieving client to view events stored in the log files.

Class Scheduling

Allocate system resources so that the most important work gets the required percentage of processing time. Users, groups, process groups, process ids, and sessions can be collected into a scheduling class that is allocated a percentage of the CPU time.

View Virtual Memory (VM) Statistics

Displays system statistics for virtual memory, processes, trap, and CPU activity.

View Input/Output (I/O) Statistics

Reports the following information:

  • For terminals (collectively), the number of characters read and written per second.

  • For each disk, the number of transfers per second, bytes transferred per second (in kilobytes), and the milliseconds per average seek.

  • For the system, the percentage of time the system has spent in user mode, in user mode running low priority (nice) processes, in system mode, and idling.

View Uptime Statistics

Displays system uptime statistics. These statistics include the current time, the amount of time since the system was last started, the number of users currently logged in, and the load averages.

Set up Insight Manager

Compaq Insight Manager is a comprehensive management tool for monitoring and controlling the operation of servers and clients.

Compaq Insight Manager Configuration is used by the system administrator to enable or disable the Compaq Insight Manager Agents on your system.
