2.6    Keyboard Navigation for Character Cell Terminals

Use the following keys to navigate the SysMan Menu on a character cell terminal:

Navigation

Tab

Moves between fields.

Arrow keys
  • In a list or text field, the arrow keys move within the field.

  • Up and Right arrows move to the previous widget.

  • Down and Left arrows move to the next widget.

Ctrl-n

Moves to the next widget.

Ctrl-a

Moves to the start of the current line.

Ctrl-e

Moves to the end of the current line.

Ctrl-u

Scrolls up 1 page.

Ctrl-d

Scrolls down 1 page.

Page Up

Scrolls up 1 page.

Page Down

Scrolls down 1 page.

Activation

Return (Enter)
  • In a selectable list, the Return key acts as a double click and performs the default action on the list item.

  • When the cursor is on a widget, performs the selected action.

  • Toggles an On/Off field.

Space Bar
  • In a selectable list, the space bar acts as a single click and selects the list item.

  • When the cursor is on a widget, performs the selected action.

  • Toggles an On/Off field.

  • Inserts a space in a text field.

Esc-O, Esc-A, Esc-C, Esc-E

OK, Apply, Cancel, and Exit can be activated using the Escape key and the letter that is underlined on the widget. For example, Esc-O activates OK.

Displaying Help

Use the Help key, F1, or Esc-H to display help for the current window.

Displaying Key Mappings

Use Ctrl-g to display key mapping instructions.

Example Task

The following example demonstrates how to use the key mappings to perform a task on the SysMan Menu:

  1. Expand the Networking management category:

    1. Open the SysMan Menu. The cursor appears inside the list of system management tasks.

    2. Use the arrow keys to move to Networking.

    3. Press Return. The Networking category expands to show the associated management categories and tasks.

  2. Expand the Basic Networking Services management category:

    1. Use the arrow keys to move to Basic Networking Services.

    2. Press Return. The Basic Networking Services category expands to show the associated tasks.

  3. Select the Set up hosts file task.

    1. Use the arrow keys to move to Set up hosts file.

    2. Press Return to start the Set up hosts file task. The Set up hosts file dialog box is displayed.

  4. Add another host:

    1. Use the Tab key to highlight Add....

    2. Press Enter to display the Add/Modify... dialog box.

    3. Enter the host's name in the Host Name: field.

    4. Use the tab key to move to the Host Address: field.

    5. Enter the host's I.P. Address in the Host Address: field.

    6. Press Esc-O to select OK, add the host to the host file, and close the Add/Modify... dialog box.

  5. Save the updated host file:

    1. Press Esc-O to select OK, save the new host file, close the Set up host file dialog box, and end the task.
