SysMan is a suite of applications for managing Tru64 UNIX® systems. SysMan provides a simple, easy to use, interface for common system management tasks, including installation and configuration. Some SysMan graphical interfaces are now independent of operating environments, providing the following advantages:
A familiar interface in any operating environment
Ease of management - there is no need to edit configuration files manually
Remote or local system mangement from a variety of platforms
SysMan applications can be used to perform system management in the following environments:
Character cell terminal | SysMan Menu is available on a local or remote character cell terminal. |
Web-based system management | SysMan Menu and SysMan Station are both available from a web browser on a personal computer (PC) running Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT. |
Personal computer (PC) | SysMan Station is available on a personal computer (PC) running Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT. |
CDE desktop (or any other X-windows display) |
SysMan Menu, SysMan Station, and Application Manager are all available in X11-compliant windowing environments. |
Command line | (SysMan command line interface)
|
Note that there may be minor functional differences in the options
provided.
For example, the SysMan Menu is designed to run in different
environments and therefore contains no graphical elements, such as icons.
The X11-based applications designed to run in a windowing environment such
as CDE often contain graphical elements and windowing features, such as drag
and drop.
For example, Account Manager (dxaccounts
) lets
you copy users using drag and drop, while the Accounts option on the SysMan
Menu does not have that feature.
This help volume provides information on the SysMan applications and points you to more detailed information on invoking and using the tools.
The following tools are available:
The SysMan Menu integrates system tools in a single menu interface that enables you to run the administrative applications as follows:
From any local or remote character-cell terminal
From any X11-compliant windowing environment, such as CDE
From Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT on a personal computer (PC)
From a browser
The
SysMan Station
enables you to monitor a system, group of systems, or an entire cluster
and administer system resources.
You can launch the SysMan Menu or invoke
applications directly from the Tools menu in the SysMan Station.
The X11-based graphical applications are available in the CDE
application manager or from the command line.
Use of these interfaces requires
a graphics (windowing) terminal or workstation, and the installation of the
windowing software subsets.
These applications support features of the windowing
environment, such as using cut and paste to create cloned versions of user
accounts in Account Manager (dxaccounts).
In some cases, the applications
have analogous SysMan Menu tasks.
The
sysman
command, which, by default, starts
the SysMan Menu.
The
-station
argument starts the SysMan
Station.
Additionally, "accelerators" are supported to provide shortcuts to SysMan
Menu functionality.
For example:
sysmannetwork
provides network tasks only.
See the
reference page for details on options and accelerators.
SysMan command line interface;
sysman -cli
is a command line interface to the SysMan Menu, which lets you execute SysMan
routines from the command line or write programs to customize the input to SysMan
interfaces.
See the
reference page
for details on options and flags.
