Here is a short version of these rules to get the basics.

Vehicle Build/Repair

Most people who don't want to sink their life savings into buying a car will decide to fix up the car themselves. For this, you'll need the Vehicle Build/Repair skill and either Car Tools or a Car Shop.

You must do a certain amount of RP to fix up your car, based on the chart below. Look up the listed price for the vehicle under the vehicle stats.

Cost of Car Number of Paragraphs for 10% TRP
$3001-$3500 10
$3501-$5000 15
$5001-$6500 20
$6501-$8000 25
$8001-$9500 30
$9501-$11000 35
$11001-$12500 40
$12501-$14000 45
$14001-$15500 50
$15501-$17000 55
$17001-$18500 60

For a car at 0% TRP, you must submit 15 paragraphs of RP to get it to 1%, since it takes so much more effort to get a car with no potential up to any sort of hope of running.

Keep in mind, this is a minimum number of paragraphs, based on the quality of the RP. The GM retains the right to require more RP from you for the percent of work done on the car; alternately, the GM may award less % work on the car than the number of paragraphs would indicate, based on quality of the RP. You must submit logs of your RP to NewRenoRPG@gmail.com, if a GM does not monitor this RP.

If two or more people want to work on vehicles together, each player only has to roleplay out 3/4 (rounded up) of the paragraph requirement (e.g. instead of one player RPing out 40 pagragraphs for 10%, two may each RP out 30 paragraphs to each do 10%). More may help, but the RP requirement doesn't get smaller. Any reductions to RP requirements for having a shop apply to anyone using that shop.

Looking "fly" and "pimped out" hasn't been a priority after the bombs dropped as much as getting a working car has been. Still, those with the money and time to spare can find places to get their car detailed beyond the necessary running components. Most people are more interested in the more practical additions they can make to their cars. Base vehicles are primer colored and basic interior, plain fabric with no frills, and they do little more than drive around.

Detailing requires the Vehicle Modification/Detailing skill and the Car Detailing tools or a Car Shop. For each modification, you must RP a particular number of paragraphs (1 paragraph / $10 of modification), minimum 5 paragraphs. This can be done for any Car Accessory except where noted. You must submit logs of this RP to NewRenoRPG@gmail.com. The GMs retain the right to require further RP for the modification.

You can also go to NCR capital, Vault City, the Hub, or Smitty's garage in the Den for this service, or get the Wrights to modify your car for you... for a price, of course.
