  The  OPEN  statement  opens  a  file   for   processing.    It   transfers
  user-specified  file  characteristics  to  Record  Management Services and
  verifies the results.

  For information  on  the  graphics  OPEN...FOR  GRAPHICS  statement,  type
  "Graphics OPEN...FOR GRAPHICS" at the help facility prompt "Topic?".

  OPEN "INPUT.DAT" FOR INPUT AS FILE #4%,     &
