Annotating a Document
You can use DECsound recordings to annotate DECwrite
documents. In this lesson, you will create a DECwrite
document, create a graphic in the document, and insert a
LiveLink connection to a DECsound recording, as follows:
1. If you are not currently running DECwrite, start a
session by choosing DECwrite from the Applications
menu of the Session Manager or FileView, or by entering
the following command:
$ RUN SYS$SYSTEM:DECWRITE
2. Specify the following document name in the Open
Document dialog box:
NEW.DOC
3. Choose Graphics... from the DECwrite Draw menu to
display the Graphics dialog box.
4. Create a simple graphic in the DECwrite document.
5. Create the LiveLink connection by following the
steps described in the LiveLink Connections from
DECwrite help topic. When you finish, click on the Go
Back button in the DECsound help window to return to
the tutorial.
The DECwrite document now contains a data block for
the DECsound recording, and DECwrite opens a new
DECsound window.
6. In the new DECsound window, click on the Record
button and record a description of the graphic.
7. When you finish the recording, click on the Save button
in the new DECsound window, then click on the Exit
button to remove the new DECsound window.
8. If you want to save the DECwrite document, choose Save
from the DECwrite File menu.
You have now completed the LiveLink connection. If you
specified the -icon qualifier in the DECwrite Link options
dialog box, the DECwrite document contains an icon that
indicates the presence of a DECsound recording in the
document. In subsequent DECwrite sessions, a DECsound
window containing the file you specified is displayed when
you double click on the DECsound icon.
