NAME
     login_passwd - standard password authentication

SYNOPSIS
     login_passwd [-s service] user [class]

DESCRIPTION
     The login_passwd utility implements the standard password authentication
     mechanism.	 The user argument is the users name to be authenticated.  If
     user is of the form name.root and name.root is not found in the password
     file, the entry for root is used.	This is in support of the su(1) pro-
     gram.
