KANAL(8) BSD System Manager's Manual KANAL(8)

NAME
kanal - preprocess crash dump and gather debug information

SYNOPSIS
     kanal dumpno

DESCRIPTION
The kanal program can be run to extract potentially useful information
from a crash dump (written by savecore(8) ) and the system that crashed.

kanal should be run from the directory containing the crash dump file (
bsdcore.N) and the saved kernel image ( bsd.N ). Dumpno is the dump num-
     ber (the N in bsdcore.N).

When run, kanal will ask numerous questions regarding the circumstances
of the crash, then attempt to gather information from various areas of
the system (mostly configuration files in /etc ). When the information
gathering is complete a single shar file will be produced that can be up-
load to the support organization for analysis.
