I555P(4) BSD Programmer's Manual I555P(4)

NAME
I555p - Physical layer (PHY) driver for Intel 82555 PHY

SYNOPSIS
     i555p* at exp? phy ?

DESCRIPTION
The i555p driver supports the Intel 82555 physical interface for 10 and
100 Mb/s Ethernet. It also supports the 82562ET and 82562EH. This device
driver is called upon by network device drivers; no direct administrative
     control is provided.

The ifconfig(8) command in conjunction with the device driver making use
of this drivers services provides an administrative interface that allows
various physical level parameters (such as duplex, speed, and loopback)
     to be controlled.

The Intel 82555 supports NWay automatic speed and duplex negotiation as
well as automatic speed detection for hubs that do not support the NWay
FLP protocol (both methods are defined by the IEEE 802.3u standard).

BUGS
On early 82555 chips, NWay negotiation will not advertise or accept full
duplex 10baseT operation, there doesn't appear to be any workaround for
this; to run in full duplex 10baseT mode the interface must be manually
configured for it (with the ifconfig(8) command).

This driver does not support the 82562EH homePNA chip.
