DITHERSTIFF(1) Impressario DITHERSTIFF(1)

NAME
ditherstiff - dither (halftone) an 8 bit stream TIFF file using error
     diffusion dither

SYNOPSIS
     ditherstiff [-I filename] [-O filename] [-L filename]
     [-e] [-s] [-h] [-D]

DESCRIPTION
ditherstiff dithers the images contained in a stream TIFF (STIFF) file
using a modified Floyd and Steinberg error diffusion dithering algorithm.
The input images should have 8 bits per color component. The output
images will be dithered to 1 bit per color component.

ditherstiff supports the following colorspace models: k, w, cmy, cmyk,
ymc, ymck, kcmy and rgb. Planar and chunky raster formats are supported.
The colorspace and raster format remained unchanged in the output stream.

   Command Line Options
ditherstiff supports the following command line options:

     -I filename
Specifies the name of the file from which the STIFF input will
be read. If the -I option is not specified, input will be read
	       from the standard input.

     -O filename
Specifies the name of the file to which the STIFF output will
be sent. If the -O option is not specified, output will be
	       sent to the standard output.

     -L filename
Specifies the name of the file to which error, warning and
informational messages are to be written. If the file specified
already exists, any messages generated by ditherstiff will be
appended to the end of the file. If the -L option is not
specified, message output will be sent to standard error.

-e Use a classic Floyd and Steinberg dither (error diffusion).

-s Use a modified Floyd and Steinberg error diffusion dither (a
two weight error filter with random perturbations is used to
reduce visual artifacts). This is the default.

-h Prints a program usage message to the standard error.

-D Specifies verbose output for debugging purposes.

NOTES
ditherstiff is typically used as a filter between psrip and a printer
driver to provide error diffusion dithered images for the printer.
