NAME
     charset - description of the standard supported character set

DESCRIPTION
     A single 8-bit character set, based on ISO 8859-1, is currently
     supported.	 Other character sets may be supported in the future.

     ISO 8859-1 is an 8-bit single-byte coded character set.  This set, Latin
     Alphabet #1, contains characters used for general purpose applications in
     typical office environments in at least the following languages: Danish,
     Dutch, English, Faeroese, Finnish, French, German, Icelandic,Irish,
     Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.

     The ASCII 7-bit character set is a proper subset of 8859-1 (see
     ASCII(5)).	 The characters added by ISO 8859-1 each have the most
     significant bit of the byte on.
