ALARM(3)		    BSD Programmer's Manual		      ALARM(3)

NAME
     alarm - set signal timer alarm

SYNOPSIS
     #include <unistd.h>

     unsigned int
     alarm(unsigned int seconds);

DESCRIPTION
     This interface is made obsolete by setitimer(2).

     The alarm() function uses the ITIMER_REAL interval timer of setitimer(2)
     to schedule a SIGALRM signal to arrive in seconds seconds.

     If the ITIMER_REAL interval timer was already running, alarm() returns
     the seconds that were remaining on the interval timer, otherwise it re-
     turns 0.

     Calling alarm() with an argument of 0 turns off any scheduled alarm.

SEE ALSO
     sigaction(2),  setitimer(2),  signal(3),  sleep(3),  ualarm(3),
     usleep(3)

HISTORY
     An alarm() function appeared in Version 7 AT&T UNIX.
