HBA(4) BSD Programmer's Manual HBA(4)

NAME
HBA - SCSI host bus adapter

DESCRIPTION
The phase "SCSI host bus adapter" has been shortened to just "host bus
adapter" which results in the acronym HBA. An HBA is used to connect a
SCSI bus to an internal systems bus such as ISA, EISA or PCI. The HBA
hardware is not standardized and therefore the HBA drivers are hardware
     dependent.

In general HBA drivers know nothing about the specifics of a target on
the SCSI bus. Unit drivers such as sd(4),	or st(4) have knowledge about
     the particulars of an unit.
